Chris Johnson

CEO & Managing Partner • Product

"We had very demanding requirements for our CPO search. We went through many rounds of candidates over 9 months until finding the right one. Chris was relentless on finding the right person. We consistently got in front of the highest quality candidates in the industry."

Spenser Skates

CEO, Amplitude

Chris co-leads our Product and Engineering Leaders Practice, and is one of the most highly sought-after search consultants in the field for these critical roles. His story is interesting and unexpected. In 2011, he was visiting friends and family in the Bay Area to watch the ""Big Game"" when he met Kevin Barry and Andy Price at SPMB. He left that vacation with a job offer from Andy to join his team as an analyst, and the rest is history. Fast forward to the beginning of 2018, when the opportunity arose to build a brand new type of search firm and partner with Andy and Dalton again, it was like he was back on the same vacation six years ago.

Chris spent 6 years at SPMB, quickly rising from Analyst to Partner and established his own brand in the market for delivering high quality Product and Engineering search work for tier-1, high profile, VC backed and public companies. Over the past few years, Chris has completed Product and Engineering searches for Airtable, Algolia, Cohesity, DocuSign, Databricks, Elastic, Figma, GitLab, Harness, Iterable, Looker, Loom, Marqeta, Mulesoft, New Relic, Postman, Productboard, Rubrik, Sendbird, ServiceNow, Splunk, Superhuman, Zuora, etc.

As a former Division-I baseball player at Villanova University (MBA) and James Madison University (BA), Chris is constantly thinking about how he can deliver high quality results quickly, and knows he can never lose focus if he wants to win. He's fiercely competitive. Whether on a search, in the community or in his personal life, he's driven and inspired by the people that surround him. When he’s not closing searches and meeting executives, he is having fun with his amazing bride, Lana, and their three boys, Jaxon, Mason, and Bryson.

"Chris, Mike and the Artisanal team have been instrumental in scaling Calendly's executive team. They've been incredible partners over the past few years helping us hire a world-class CPO, CTO, and a few VPs. I can't recommend them enough for engineering and product hiring."

Tope Awotona

CEO, Calendly

Mike is a Partner in the Engineering practice at Artisanal Talent. In his career, he partnered with growth stage, VC backed organizations, along with public companies, to hire executives across Engineering, Product Management, and Product Design. Dalton Becky

Founder & Managing Partner • GTM

"Dalton has been an excellent partner over the years, though many stages of growth. Each time we've worked with him, he's brought incredible focus and prioritization to our most critical searches. Our most recent search for a CRO saw extraordinary commitment from Dalton and his team, who were relentless in keeping the bar high, and consistently delivered A+ candidates. Thank you!"

Spencer Kimball

CEO & Co-founder, Cockroach Labs

Dalton leads our GTM practice and is one of the most well-connected exec recruiters in the business. Dalton, a Colorado native and extreme athlete grew up skiing, riding dirt bikes, and playing ice hockey. The drive, determination, and self-discipline required to excel at extreme sports served him well as he started his career in Sales at Oracle. Although, quickly climbing the ranks as a top performer, it became apparent that the sluggish, bureaucratic culture wasn't cutting it. He wanted more. More innovation, agility, faster pace, high risk, high reward. Startup culture was beckoning. Andy Price recruited him to join SPMB while he was a rising star, to inject more sales blood into the company and build the GTM practice.

Over 4 years at SPMB, he executed more than 60 executive searches for some of the biggest names in the valley- ServiceNow, Hashicorp, Docusign, Mulesoft, and Forescout to name a few. Dalton specializes in b2b GTM projects (marketing, sales, biz dev, and customer success) both at the VP and C-level. At his core, he's fueled by competition and will run through walls to deliver the highest quality product. He's established his own brand in the market as being an "execution machine" and is maniacal about delighting his clients and creating wealth for them. In his spare time, put simply, he's an adrenaline junkie. Always trying to go fast(er), push the limit, or travel the world in seek of a thrill. Other times he can be found working on his golf game."

Kira Krauss

Partner • GTM

"Artisanal led a senior search for me here at Snowflake. Kira and her team are the best in business and have invaluable relationships with candidates in the marketing talent space. They quickly understood what would be a good fit for Snowflake and the search process was stellar from start to finish."

Denise Persson

CMO, Snowflake

Kira is a Go-to-Market specialist at the firm, primarily focused on early through late stage Sales and Marketing leadership roles (CRO/VPS/CMO/VPM). She's a passion fueled, 24/7/365 kind of character! Kira spent her formative years as a child actress and credits her unshakeable work ethic and performance-driven mindset to her time spent in the entertainment industry. She just out-hustled competitors in a brutal, cutthroat industry before joining Daversa Partners, in 2013. Kira spent over five years building out the senior leadership teams for top-tier VC & PE backed enterprise software and consumer tech companies spanning from NYC to the Bay Area.

Kira always had the itch to operate, and before joining Artisanal, she was recruited by a major client, Zwift, a high-growth consumer tech company in LA. She joined as VP of People and "became a client" to search, which was eye-opening, to say the least. Ultimately, she realized that search was her first love, and she joined Artisanal in 2019 with a fresh perspective. Having sat on the other side of the table, Kira deeply understands how valuable it is to have a search partner that is highly collaborative, transparent, and operates with a sense of urgency and precision. Over the past few years, Kira's completed Sales & Marketing searches for Snowflake, Cribl, Amplitude, LaunchDarkly, Contentful, Hashicorp, Confluent, Iterable, Gitlab, Benchling, Okta, PagerDuty, and others.

Outside of work, Kira loves spending time with her husband, Rob, daughter Kaia, and their two pugs, Jerry & Sweetie.

Rob Carter

Partner • GTM

"Rob Carter and the team at Artisanal Talent have helped us build a world class team at AcuityMD. As we've scaled, they've helped us fill several executive roles with top notch talent. Hiring great leaders is make-or-break for a fast growing company. Artisanal helps you land the best leaders based on your company's needs."

Mike Monovoukas

CEO/Founder, AcuityMD

Rob has spent a decade in executive search leading C-level searches in GTM (Pres/COO, CRO, CMO, and CCO). He primarily focuses on Cybersecurity, IaaS, DevOps, Data/AI, with a "minor" focus in vertical SaaS and rarely, some Apps companies. Rob works with companies ranging from early stage to late stange and even public companies.

Since joining Artisanal, Rob has been a key stakeholder in building and growing our Cybersecurity practice, and also working to build out key executive hires for companies in the Artisanal Ventures portfolio. Over the course of his career he has led projects for the likes of HashiCorp, New Relic, Workday, Kong, Airtable, and has helped to build a large portion of the Cyberstarts portfolio as well. The key drivers for Rob are the thrill of competing and winning, the chance to disrupt an industry (search) that has largely stayed the same for 30+ years, the satisfaction that comes from helping to build innovative and disruptive companies, the intellectual challenge of solving tough problems for incredible clients (and delighting them thru the process), and mentoring/growing teammates/Artisans who are earlier in their careers.

When he isn't building companies, Rob enjoys spending time with his family (his sister won a gold medal in swimming for Team USA in the Special Olympic World Games!), traveling, outdoor sports, riding his motorcycle, slowly working towards his private pilots license, reading books of all kinds, and spending times with close friends.

"With a decade spent in executive search, it's amazing to have FUN working with the special team here. The same can be said of our clients. Some of the most interesting and intelligent people on the planet. And we're just getting started!"

"We loved working with Megan on our SVP of Product hire. We appreciated her consultative approach and talent expertise; she brought an unbiased opinion on candidates' strengths and where we needed to dig in during our assessment. We ran a tight and quick process, and got a great hire! The fact that the Artisanal team is a joy to work with is icing on the cake."

Blake Hall

CEO, ID.me

Megan is a Bay Area native excited to be making her mark on Silicon Valley! She is powered by hard work, critical thinking, and a commitment to excellence. She is always finding new and exciting ways to challenge herself and the people around her. Following her passion for people and what makes them tick, Megan went to UCLA to study Anthropology. Her ability to connect and win the trust of influential people is ultimately what led Megan to recruiting.

Her search career started at NeoHire, a small boutique recruiting firm in Los Angeles where she focused on hiring engineers for top LA tech companies like Headspace, Victorious, and Tradesy. Megan moved back to San Francisco when Neohire merged with Ejento. As a top performer, Megan was selected to launch the executive search practice for Ejento. It was there that she helped shape a team dedicated to providing a search experience that valued transparency, specialization, efficiency, and a high-touch approach. At Ejento, she built a successful practice - hiring top-notch Engineering and Security leaders for high-growth startups such as Semmle, Exabeam, Mattermost, and Emerge. Megan joined Artisanal as a Principal but quickly became a Partner at the firm. Megan’s focus today is hiring product and engineering leaders for early, mid and pre-IPO category-leading companies. Outside of work, you can find Megan kiteboarding at 3rd Ave, skiing at Alpine Meadows, or running the trails of the East Bay open space. She is an avid foodie and aspiring chef and is always in search of a new adventure!

"I’m motivated by challenge and its resulting impact, specializing in the hardest and weirdest executive position - product management. Equal parts sales, engineering, marketing, politics, founder whisperer, and customer champion. A unique position to hire for, and the heart of an organization. Helping founders navigate this and seeing the result feels damn good!"

These were some of the roughest roles to find, but Rob & Damon had our back throughout the process and helped us attract two remarkable and compatible candidates. Vidur Dewan

Partner • Product & Engineering

"One of the things I loved most about working with Vidur is that I never felt like he played the role of the recruiter. He became a trusted advisor and thought partner because he was able to be unbiased in his consultation with us. He didn’t push candidates that weren’t fit for us — the search felt very different on the whole."

Derek Lo

Founder/CEO, Medallion

A native Northern Californian, Vidur has always been enamored with technology from a young age. He fell into executive search after realizing a role in banking wasn’t scratching his intellectual curiosity “itch”. Vidur was an early hire at Daversa Partners’ San Francisco office, building and scaling their engineering and product executive search practice. He cut his teeth working with some incredibly promising early to mid stage companies that went on to become industry marques: HashiCorp, UiPath, Roblox, Slack, Cloudflare, Sentry, ThousandEyes, ThoughtSpot, and Toast. There, Vidur developed a maniacally high-bar for talent and devotion to his clients on ensuring a close partnership.

Later, Vidur crossed paths with Andy Price, Chris Johnson, and Alex Zakupowsky, feeling strong alignment on the commitment to excellence and carving a path to do better than the status quo. He joined on the mission to continue to scale and build Artisanal’s brand and business within engineering and product executive search. Vidur brings a systems mindset to his search work, utilizing the highest impact levers to produce the best results for his clients—he’s firmly against “one-size-fits-all” and thrives on creating successful partnerships between executives and companies.

Vidur graduated from U.C. Davis with a B.S. in Managerial Economics. When he’s not working, he loves to dazzle his friends with his amateur chef skills and explore all the nooks and crannies of California. If there is a new or niche product, service, or subscription out there—it’s likely he uses or has tried it.

"Founders have immense pressure and drive to build the best company they can — and they need the best people around them to help deliver that. That responsibility is what drives me to deliver the best experience and candidate possible for them."

After the program ended, Sophie was itching to move to California, a place she knows and loves, and dive into the recruiting world. She landed in Los Angeles as a Recruiting Coordinator, where she placed individuals at leading entertainment, fashion, and finance companies.

Sophie became passionate about recruiting, building relationships, and sourcing top talent. She was eager to recruit in the tech space, which is what brought her to Artisanal Talent supporting the GTM team. Sophie thrives in a fast-paced environment and is extremely dedicated and driven. Outside of work, you can find her practicing hot yoga or finding the nearest Peloton, enjoying California’s beaches and farmer’s markets, or exploring the LA restaurant scene.
